Worms Will Eat ...

Worms will eat a wide variety of food and garden waste. It is not the waste that worms consume but the matter produced during decomposition.  Wormeries are simply a secure space that worms can live and breed in conditions that wormeries promote.  Wormeries speed up decomposition by increasing the humidity and heat so causing waste to break down quicker allowing worms to feed.

We suggest turning the surface every 4-6 weeks and then adding one handful of calcified lime evenly on the surface.  Calcified Lime is supplied with all our wormery systems and is a great way of reducing acid levels and controlling smells.

If feeding garden waste..

  • Allow garden waste to stand for a month before placing in wormery.  This will kill off all the bugs and go through the heat stage prior to going in your wormery.
  • If you suspect red mite on waste, do not place in wormery
  • Never place large amounts of grass cuttings in the wormery- composted grass cuttings can go into the wormery
  • Do not use slug pellets in the wormery
  • Large thorns should not be placed in the wormery
  • Do not use garden waste if within seven days of weed spray or insecticide treatment
