Why Worms? Worms have been around for millions of years. Nematodes, have been instrumental in changing the planets chemistry in allowing flora and fauna to exist. They are natural waste management operatives, changing rotting vegetation material to organic rich fertiliser that allows trees, plants, grasses etc to grow.
Modern society is heavily reliant on insects and worms in being able to produce crops and clean water. For instance. Bees are used to pollinate our crops and fruit trees. Without bees, we simply wouldn't be able to eat.
The very same worms we supply in our wormeries are also used in modern water filter beds in drinking water production.
Maggots are used for the effective cleaning of hospital wounds
Beetle larvae, such as the Indian Beetle is used as a natural predator against aphids, green fly etc in modern tomato and fruit production.
So using worms that have proved to be more than effective in food waste management is a natural choice. The process also reduces the amount of methane produced that damages the atmosphere, and the fetiliser produced by worms contains natural deterrents against weevil, green fly and anthropoid infestations. This rich compost is used in many modern farming applications as an organic alternative to chemical fetilisers and soil conditioner.
