Using any wormery system is not just a natural way of converting waste to high grade fertiliser, but is very much an effective way of waste disposal. A process involving no energy consumption. No energy use = No carbon emissions.
Small changes - Big Results! From the very moment a tea bag or left over peeling's goes into a wormery, that is less weight of waste going into the rubbish bin. Less weight in the bin is less weight the bin lorries have to carry so using less fuel, producing less carbon exhaust emissions. As the lorry takes the waste for processing, less waste is treated and less electricity, fuel and manpower is required. Eventually, less waste going into landfill causing less methane to be produced. We call this the Carbon Cycle. The more wormeries being used by households, schools and businesses in a local area, the less energy required to process waste that would end up in landfill.
You could of course throw such waste on a composter - but that takes far too long and will produce more methane, an aggressive greenhouse gas which is 20 times more aggressive to the atmosphere than CO2. Wormeries are quicker and greatly reduces methane emissions as the waste is consumed before full decomposition is achieved. The worms have however just created a great natural fertiliser which goes to grow food produce, converts brown belt land to green and aids major rural development programs. Waste conversion using a wormery taking only two weeks - composters up to a year.
Wonder Wigglers Recycling is funded to promote reducing carbon use by promoting natural processing of household waste.
